Heather Perry

Youth Programme Manager

Heather is from Whanganui and joined the team as the Youth Programme Manager in 2019. This role leads the development of Mates and Dates and other key youth programmes across the Wellington, Manawatu, Whanganui and Gisborne regions as well as Service Delivery Managing Mates and Dates in the Hawkes Bay, Otago and Taranaki regions.

Heather has a Masters degree in Health Sciences specialising in Intimate Partner Violence and developed an education programme for primary school teachers to raise their awareness around the impacts of children witnessing violence in their homes. Heather comes from managing a Women’s Refuge and prior to that spent ten years working for Family Planning as a Sexual Health Promoter. During that time she developed many programmes for youth and adults, as well as writing the ‘International Students Sexuality Education Toolkit’.

Heather has presented around the country at conferences on teaching healthy relationships education, and local projects around increasing support and connectedness for gender and sexual diverse rangatahi. Heather has spent time teaching in primary schools, high schools and university around the world including, London, Japan and Oman.
